With the New Year here, it’s a great time to make sure we’re taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, and socially. What’s unique is getting to the “gym” can help with all three. There is nothing like getting into better physical shape to help get us get mentally sharp. And do not discount the social aspect of a gym. It’s amazing the positive effect of being around others, saying hi and/or having a casual conversation can have. Not into the gym? We offer plenty of other social and educational opportunities. Facility Improvements
Please note our competition lap pool will be closed for draining, cleaning, and general maintenance from January 20 – 30. If you’re going to go use another pool during this time, please bring us your receipts for each day and we’ll reimburse you. We do apologize for any inconvenience.
We’ve also received the permit for installing lights at the Bachus Family Pickleball Center. Work should begin in approximately 10 weeks.
The J Gala
Save the date! The 2025 J Gala is set for Saturday, December 13, at the Biltmore Hotel. Honorees are Rachel and Jonathan Hoffer. It is going to be an amazing night so mark your calendars now.
Pickleball
We have teams playing in the Scottsdale Pickleball League. If you want to check out the action we play on our homecourt at The J on January 23, 25, and 30 at Noon.

Early Childhood
Registration for Fall 2025 at the Alison Hendeles Early Childhood Center opens next week. Our program is unique, learning and activity based, and top notch. Interested? Contact Leah for additional information or to schedule a tour.
Aquatics
This is a great time to be thinking about summer fun in the sun and water safety. Whether your child needs to learn to swim or improve their water skills, our Aquatics team can meet your needs. Contact Pam to get started. We also offer swim team, masters, and adult lessons.
NFL Playoffs
Unfortunately, the Cardinals didn’t make the playoffs this year, but we can still have some fun. Pick the winner with the score (ex. Buffalo 24-21) of the Baltimore/Buffalo game this Sunday for a chance to have your next month of membership on us. Picks are due to me by Noon on Sunday.
Giving Back
Next month The J staff will set aside time to make two thousand sandwiches to be distributed out in the community. If you are interested in helping, shoot me an email and I will get back to you with the time and day.
Summer Day Camp
A reminder, summer will be upon us quickly and that means camp. Shemesh Day Camp at The J is where you want to be, as Erin and her team have developed what promises to be an incredible summer of fun. Registration opens on February 3. For information contact Erin.
Heart Month
February is “Heart Month.” It is a great time to get healthy or healthier. Watch throughout the month for tips, information, and programs geared to keeping/getting you heart healthy.

We know there’s nothing better than word-of-mouth marketing. To help you market us, for every member you refer (must sign up for a 12- month membership) you’ll receive one month of membership at no cost. It is that simple. Please make sure they provide your name as the referral when joining.
Community – BJE’s Hebrew High
The spring semester for Hebrew High launched January 14. Teens in 9th-12th grade are invited to join the discussion for the welcome back learning event on Olam Hesed Yibaneh, Building a Better World. Hebrew High offers a variety of engaging classes that empower Jewish confidence and strengthen resilience, Tuesdays 7-9pm at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus.
Like to travel? Join CAREaVAN — Teen Summer with a Purpose – volunteer up the coast of California while having fun at every stop along the way. Program runs June 8-18, info session is Tuesday, January 21, at 6:15pm.
